As Tech Guys, we have to walk a fine line between using new and “fancy” technology to improve marketing and conversion, and keeping things simple.

Technology has the amazing ability to take any idea to market… or bring even the best business concepts to a screeching halt.

Technology may be killing your business by:

Being difficult to manage.

Seems like not a day goes by without a dozen new emails in my inbox about the “hot new trend” in marketing or another “must have tool” promising traffic and sales.

The fact is that the more things you try to add, the more of a mess you can end up making if you don’t do it right

Unnecessary complexity can make changes difficult, and if prospects and customers are in different systems, you have to get them to communicate, which can lead to hair pulling frustration

Being difficult to Measure

If you are tracking different paramaters in different systems, it’s hard to get a complete picture of what your business is doing.

If your traffic is tracked in one system, and you’ve got an email database for all your leads, and your customers are in your shopping cart, and your paying members are in a membership program, you’ve got a handful of systems to track to see what’s actually going on in your business.

Being “Shiny”

If you’re on any marketing list, you know that every week heralds the release of “the next big thing” – this week it’s video, next week traffic, then info products, social media, etcetera…

So if you’re chasing after new things rather than ensuring the fundamentals are setup, working, and measurable, you’re going to have a bad time.

Being Neglected

If it requires 4 different logins to get the essential metrics to measure the status of your business, how often are you actually going to do it?

Be honest… never is a strong word, but that’s probably more than the “twice a week” you’re trying to convince yourself of.
